The Problem

Sierra Chemicals has several methods for meeting the cleaning needs of our customers. Internal fouling of gas process equipment, customers trying to avoid costly downtime, and putting personnel in dangerous confined space entries is the problem. Sierra Chemicals has several methods for meeting the cleaning needs of our customers. Many customers run into problems with internal fouling that has an unknown origin and make up. Just an 1/8-inch buildup on some heat exchangers can reduce heat exchange efficiency by as much as 25 percent. Sierra Chemicals has the ability to tailor a solution to customers’ specific issues. First, by lab testing the fouling samples, then by implementing a cleaning strategy with turnkey solutions using our contaminate specific chemical package or high pressure water jet cleaning.

Known Contaminations of Systems and Our Solutions

Over the years, Sierra has identified some known contaminates in typical systems found throughout gas processing. Below are a few of those systems and Sierra’s chemicals and cleaning packages.

Amine Systems: Iron magnetite, iron sulfide (can refer to a range of chemical compound composed of iron and sulfur.) Hydrocarbons, H2S, Degraded Amine

  • Iron Chemical Package: Designed to remove Iron based scales
  • Paraffin Chemical Package: Organic solvent with high flashpoint (safer) for paraffin and heavy organic deposits
  • Caustic Chemical Package: This package works well on some oil base solids and hydrocarbons
  • Scaling Chemical Package: Designed to work on scaling (excluding Iron magnetite)
  • Purge C: Designed to reduce explosive gases (LEL) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S)

Glycol Systems: Broken down glycol, paraffin’s (flammable, whitish, translucent, waxy solid) consisting of a mixture of saturated hydrocarbons, obtained by distillation from petroleum or shale. In rare cased iron sulfide (FeS)

  • Caustic Chemical Package: This package works well on some oil base solids and hydrocarbons
  • Paraffin Chemical Package: Organic solvent with high flashpoint (safer) for paraffin and heavy organic deposits
  • React 104 Acid Package: Designed to work on Scales (excluding Iron magnetite)

Cryogenic System (Cryo): Molecular sieve (Mole-Sieve a crystalline substance), Iron sulfide (can refer to a range of chemical compound composed of iron and sulfur), and hydrocarbons.

  • Ultrasolv Chemical Package (WATERLESS): Solvent for paraffin and heavy organic deposits. Followed up with Methanol flush
  • Paraffin Chemical Package: Solvent for paraffin and heavy organic deposits
  • Caustic Chemical Package: This package works well on some oil base solids and hydrocarbons
  • Purge C: Designed to reduce explosive gases (LEL) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S)

Testing

Sierra Chemicals has the ability to test fouling and debris, at our in-house or third party laboratories to find the ideal solution. We have the ability to mimic field conditions to achieve optimal results, then formulate a specific chemical package for each of our customers’ individual fouling problems.

  • Thru testing and development, Sierra Chemicals has determined optimal temperature needs
  • Over 100 developed and proven chemistry packages
