The Safety Coordinator Apprentice (Houston, TX) implements organization safety and environmental programs to ensure safe, healthy, and accident free work environment.

Hours: 10-hour shift, 8-hour shift, M-F, Weekend availability
Responsibilities: Develop, monitor, and maintain HSE compliance sites (i.e. ISNetworld, Avetta, PEC Premier, Veriforce, NCMS, TPS Alert, etc.) Schedule, perform, and track safety training for all employees Track safety statistics and bulletin distributions, including behavior-based safety (BBS) observations and near miss reports using SOSPES Fill the role of local designated employee representative for Sierra Chemicals’ drug and alcohol policy. Verifies company safety and environmental policies and procedures are implemented in the field. Provide informal in-the-field safety training to all employees based on work site safety and environmental hazards and company policies and procedures. Assist Safety Director with on-the job injuries, accidents, and etc. Creates company Safety Bulletins for employees to read and understand which are based on current safety and environmental issues Inspects company facilities to identify existing or potential safety and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented Ensures hazard communications are in place, i.e., signs, labels, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions Assists in the preparation of material and evidence for the company’s use in hearings, lawsuits, insurance investigations, federal/state audits, and customer audits Performs assessments, audits, and inspections of on-site work, equipment, materials, and customer locations Coordinates with customer safety representatives to ensure safety and environmental compliance programs are met and resolves safety issues and concerns Implements policies and procedures to meet the Department of Transportation requirements for commercial motor vehicles and the transportation of hazards materials Verifies safety and environmental records are maintained and secure Coordinates employee DOT and respiratory medical evaluations for employees Execute periodic reporting requirements Take the lead on periodic self-audits of all program areas.
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (BS) from four-year College or University in related discipline; or three to five years safety experience; or equivalent combination of education (in process of obtaining degree) and experience.
Qualifications: CSP, CIH, OHST, or CHST is preffered, or working toward certification.
